How Time Targeting Affects Flight Delivery

Précédent Suivant

When you apply time targeting to a campaign, the Triton ad server calculates how many days in the flight are actually eligible for delivery. The number of eligible days directly affects how impressions are paced over the course of the campaign. The ad server then calculates a daily delivery target, which it uses to base the pace of impressions to deliver.

Calculating Eligible Days

For example, you create a flight with these settings:

  • Start date: 2025/08/22

  • End date: 2025/08/31

  • Time targeting: Exclude Saturday and Sunday

In this case:

  • The total flight duration is 10 calendar days.

  • Time targeting removes weekend days from delivery.

  • That leaves 6 eligible days for ad delivery.

Calculating Pacing

Once the ad server has the number of eligible days, it then divides it by flight’s goal to give a daily delivery target. The ad server bases the actual pacing of ad delivery from the daily delivery target. This ensures that the ad server delivers impressions only on the days you’ve targeted while still meeting the flight’s goal.

Keep in mind that your daily delivery target will increase to meet the goal if you use aggressive time targeting by choosing limited days or hours.

For example, if your goal is 60,000 impressions:

  • Eligible days = 6

  • Daily delivery target = 60,000 / 6 = 10,000 impressions/day

The ad server then uses your flight’s Pacing setting to adjust the actual rate of delivery.

Rythme

Example rate of delivery

Régulier

Stop delivering each day when 10,000 impressions have been reached.

Chargé au début

Stop delivering after 20,000 impressions on the first day. Then stop delivering after 8,000/day for each of the remaining 5 days. In other words, double the daily delivery target for the first day then spread out the remaining impressions on the remaining days.

Basé sur les tendances

Do not use this pacing with time targeting because it constrains the trending algorithm’s ability to follow listenership patterns. For details, see Tips for Pacing in TAP.

Aussi rapide que possible

Continue delivering past the daily delivery target as long as it does not affect ad delivery of other flights. Delivery stops once the flight's total goal is reached.
